I am so thankful we were seeing the city with someone who has lived there for a year. Annie knows the lay of the land and more importantly, how to navigate the subway system. It is an experience that can be very daunting and confusing if you do not know what you are doing. I loved not having to think about where we were going and how we were going to get there because Annie had that aspect covered.
We started the week watching Annie perform in a dance concert for her school at Hunter College. We had not seen her perform for quite a while and it was magical. She loves to dance. As a matter of fact, it is her passion and there is something wonderful watching someone you love in the midst of their passion.
During the course of the week we visited Tim Keller's church, spent Sunday afternoon in Central Park, attended a Yankee's Game, saw the Broadway show Pippin, rode bikes through the city, ate at some really fun restaurants, cooked together and shopped of course. Oh and Annie and I got massages on my birthday!!! She and I spent two afternoons together and Ty hung out at a HUGE bookstore reading and browsing. It was wonderful being with Annie and spending time with her charming boyfriend Lucas too!!!
But this time was different. This time we had a plan and I have to say it was not completely my idea. I have to give credit to my other wonderful daughter Emily. She suggested I send a text out to some close friends asking them to be praying for our time away and that our hearts would be prepared and protected. And so that is what I did and guess what??? We had our best time away yet. We did not struggle or go into our respective funks. It was great the whole time in every way. Thanks Annie for a great visit and thank Emily for your wise suggestion. I love my daughters... my friends. Oh and I love my husband too!!!
