numerous diets over the decades and at different times set out to start a new
eating plan. As I have gotten older my metabolism is slowing down and I certainly cannot get away with eating
as I once did. The pounds keep creeping in, darn it!!!
I have a friend, Christina King Elder, who is passionate about nutrition and a healthy
lifestyle. When I am around her I am always fascinated with what she eats and drinks and more importantly, what
she doesn’t eat and drink!!!! She is an athlete, and a fitness fanatic.
What I have come to realize about Christina is that this is what she
loves. She is totally passionate about health and nutrition and because of that eating healthy is the result.
not always had the healthiest relationship with food.
As a matter of fact, or should I say confession, I struggled with bulimia
for several years during and after college. I would use food in an unhealthy way to
find comfort and satisfaction. After some professional counseling and dealing with some root issues in
my life, I was able to stop binging and purging. I would love to say that since that time my “food issues” have vanished
but that is not the case. I think about food way more than I would like to admit and I often measure my day’s
success by how well I did or did not eat.
And, on top of that, I grew up in a food oriented family. My mom is full blooded
Italian and my dad full blooded Lebanese. Eating is what we do and to be honest, my mom cooked delicious meals but
rarely thought about healthy ingredients. I grew up eating pasta at least twice a week and whole wheat pasta was
never on our menu. Now that I have shared all my eating obstacles with you, I am here to say that I am going to
try, once again, to change the way I eat.
Back to my friend Christina King Elder. I have asked her to be my food mentor. She is thrilled to
have an eager student and also to witness with me the difference these changes will make in my life. I am just
getting started and was tempted to wait and see how I do before I shared this publically.
Then I decided to take you with me on this journey and if I do not succeed you will all know it. How is that for build in motivation?
I will not share about this in every blog post, but I will from time to time share what I am eating and how I am progressing. Thanks for joining me on this journey!!
