I know what you are thinking right now; GOOD LUCK WITH THAT TERRI!!!!
It is pretty lame thinking but to be honest, and I sure want to be an honest woman, I have become aware of this limiting mindset more and more with each passing year. I think it is actually laziness on my part. It does take energy to dream and imagine what could be and even more energy to move in the direction of your dreams and imaginations.
So that explains why the excerpt below really challenged me.
At some point, most of us stop living out
of imagination and start living out of memory. Instead of creating the future, we
start repeating the past. Instead of living by faith, we live by logic.
Prayer and imagination are directly
proportional: The more you pray the bigger your imagination becomes because the
Holy Spirit supersizes it with God-sized dreams.
One litmus test of our spiritual maturity
is whether your dreams are getting bigger or smaller. God wants you to keep
dreaming till the day you die.
This really challenged me. I easily get caught up in the day to day stuff and don't give myself the margin to dream. Batterson recommended putting together a list of dreams and goals. He gave his list as an example and had set goals in several categories including family, financial, and fitness. Our goals help us imagine what can be and putting them in writing increases the likelihood of this happening.
I have done this in the past, listing my goals that is. It does increase the likelihood of them actually coming to pass. But, what I have found is that making my goals known to a trusted friend or confidant and enlisting them to keep me accountable makes the likelihood of them happening even more possible.
I am dreaming about traveling to Europe, taking a cooking class in Italexpanding my gift of hospitality by pouring it into other women who want to grow in this area, reading more books that inspire me, attend a writers, speakers conference to name a few.
So what about you? What are you dreaming about and imagining for your future? Have you listed them out? Finally, do you have someone in your life that could keep you accountable for forward movement. I double-dog dare you to do it!!! I would love to hear about your journey. Post a comment and start moving!!
