Two days later Annie send me a text with the video of her surprising me for my birthday last April. Ty flew her in as a surprise and of course videoed me acting like an emotional, overjoyed mother when I saw my daughter right before my eyes when I opened them.
Those are the "moments" in life that are unforgettable. They are moments that are significant, special, memorable and such. Annie coming for my birthday certainly qualified and I was so grateful.
It reminds me of a recent devotional I read. It was from Sarah Young's Jesus Calling which is a favorite of mine. She shared how many of us fantasize about things we are waiting or hoping for and allow the day to day "moments trickle into the ground like precious balm spilling wastefully from overturned bottles".
Her point is this, don't let our hopes for tomorrow rob us of the joy of each day. She shared how us choosing to rejoice and be thankful in the now helps us live a fulfilling life. Of course there is a balance. I recently posted about the importance of dreaming and setting goals. We must cultivate our dreams and hopes for the future. Her point is that we can choose to rejoice and show gratitude not just for the "BIG" moments, but for each and every day.
This becomes an intentional practice on our part to....
REJOICE IN THE LORD ALWAYS...Philippians 4:4
I have a list in my head of things I thank the Lord for daily, no matter how I feel or how my day in unfolding.
Things like a godly, faithful husband, our health, our relationships with our children, wonderful friends, a job, a beautiful home, my relationship with the Lord, a sound mind and on and on. Choosing to give thanks and rejoice is a daily practice for me.
Don't get me wrong, I love the moments that are what I would call the highs of life. I am dreaming of a vacation to Italy with Ty but full of gratitude that each day I wake up and because of my relationship with the Lord, have what it takes to rejoice in the midst of what that day may bring.
What are you choosing to be thankful for each and every day no matter what???
PS Annie took this photo on her flight home. Enjoy!
