Ty and I attended the Storyline Conference hosted by Donald Miller last February. He talk about the journey we all go through to find our place of influence. Miller recommended that when we are in our twenties we should "date a lot of different ambitions." His point is that we need to expose ourselves to many different things in various settings to help us fine tune what our dreams and passions are.
Once we find out what it is that makes us tick so to speak, we are to spend our lives using what we love to do to enrich the lives of those around us. Our lives are only fulfilling when we are making the lives of others better because we are in it.
I feel like I spent many years not completely settled in who I was. I often found myself admiring the strengths of others and being frustrated that I did not have those same gifts. I wanted to be more like them and less like me. Comparison is a deadly pass time. It caused me to not celebrate the gifts of others because I was too busy focusing on the fact that I thought I did not measure up.
One of Ty's favorite quotes comes to mind. "The freest person is the one who has nothing to prove." Another words, they are completely comfortable in their own skin. I am now 57 years old and in many ways just coming into my own. I know what I am and very aware of what I am not.
I am a mother and a nurturer. I love to offer hospitality. Feeding others and cooking and baking is what I love to do.
My life is richer because of the people who are a part of it. Each one is unique and each one enriches my life in wonderful ways.
What about you? What are your gifts and passions? You finding the answer to that will only enrich the lives in your path!!
